Leverage Leadership's approach is grounded in 8 leadership principles modeled by Jesus, used by the early church and still relevant for today's Christian leaders and pastors.
The 8 Principles of Less Is More Leadership
(1) Spirituality - The Power of Convictions
Jesus said that the single greatest commandment is to love God and love people. All of life and leadership must begin with a healthy spiritual walk with God. Today's ministry environment is fast-paced and continually changing. To keep current without compromise, you need convictions in the core of your life. The key to healthy change is first knowing what should never change. (2) Humility - The Power of Servant-Leadership
If you want to be great, be a servant. Jesus wasn’t talking to the masses when he gave this advice, but to his band of future leaders. Servant-leadership is not for the weak, but for those who want to leverage their strengths as God intends. |
This type of humility fosters creativity, enables flexibility, promotes team morale and loyalty, while nurturing the pursuit of excellence.
(3) Imagination - The Power of Vision
Jesus demonstrated the power of vision, of imagining the future, when he issued the Great Commission. He commanded his followers to go into all the world and make disciples: grow the kingdom and change history! The leader must have a clear and compelling vision - and communicate it!

(4) Mobilization - The Power of Letting Go
A mobilized team of leaders, empowered, equipped, and released to lead His movement, was Jesus’ next priority. Jesus could have stayed around to personally manage the early church, but he chose to empower others instead. Be your staff's cheerleader, motivator and supplier, but do not micromanage. Leaders who want to lead and have a life would do well to empower, release and take a day off!

(5) Specialization - The Power of Optimum Capabilities
Be a wise steward of your abilities. Build on your strengths as opposed to strengthening your weaknesses. As you mobilize others, you free yourself to invest more time and energy into your natural gifts and talents. Optimum capability is the convergence of your gifts, passions and experiences. Strengths-based leadership brings more fruit with more joy.

(6) Innovation - The Power of Creativity
Jesus gave his future leaders the core values of the kingdom, the eternal message of the gospel, and the unchanging mission of the church, but he gave virtually no methods. He never planned a worship service. He never wrote a manual on youth ministry. He didn’t even describe how to organize the church. Instead, He gave us the gift of freedom and flexibility. Cultivate a culture of creativity to thrive.

(7) Concentration - The Power of Focus
Time and energy aligned toward a goal is pivotal to leading and living well. The apostle Paul said it best: “I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air” (1 Cor. 9:26). Time is the leader's most valuable resource but the easiest to waste. Learn to focus using Leverage Leadership's 4 R's of time management and you will juggle your demands effectively and spend less time picking up dropped balls!

(8) Determination - The Power of Hope
Hope, especially when tough times hit, is the final essential for good leadership. Jesus spoke often of hope. The apostle Paul declared it one of the three essentials of life – faith, hope and love. Without hope, the game is over before it begins. To thrive, leaders must keep hope alive no matter what.
